Teaching for the day – The Body

SB 10.2.27 — The body [the total body and the individual body are of the same composition] may figuratively be called “the original tree.” From this tree, which fully depends on the ground of material nature, come two kinds of fruit — the enjoyment of happiness and the suffering of distress. The cause of the tree, forming its three roots, is association with the three modes of material nature — goodness, passion and ignorance. The fruits of bodily happiness have four tastes — religiosity, economic development, sense gratification and liberation — which are experienced through five senses for acquiring knowledge in the midst of six circumstances: lamentation, illusion, old age, death, hunger and thirst. The seven layers of bark covering the tree are skin, blood, muscle, fat, bone, marrow and semen, and the eight branches of the tree are the five gross and three subtle elements — earth, water, fire, air, ether, mind, intelligence and false ego. The tree of the body has nine hollows — the eyes, the ears, the nostrils, the mouth, the rectum and the genitals — and ten leaves, the ten airs passing through the body. In this tree of the body there are two birds: one is the individual soul, and the other is the Supersoul.

SB 10.2.28 — The efficient cause of this material world, manifested with its many varieties as the original tree, is You, O Lord. You are also the maintainer of this material world, and after annihilation You are the one in whom everything is conserved. Those who are covered by Your external energy cannot see You behind this manifestation, but theirs is not the vision of learned devotees.

Thought for the day – Ocean of Peace and Silence

It is said that rest is best. Imagine an ocean of peace and silence and plunge into it. Let your mind relax and enjoy moments of tranquillity. Free yourself from wasteful thoughts. This is the best type of rest.

Teaching for the Day – Spiritual Knowledge

SB 9.7.25-26 — Mahārāja Hariścandra first purified his mind, which was full of material enjoyment, by amalgamating it with the earth. Then he amalgamated the earth with water, the water with fire, the fire with the air, and the air with the sky. Thereafter, he amalgamated the sky with the total material energy, and the total material energy with spiritual knowledge. This spiritual knowledge is realization of one’s self as part of the Supreme Lord. When the self-realized spiritual soul is engaged in service to the Lord, he is eternally imperceptible and inconceivable. Thus established in spiritual knowledge, he is completely freed from material bondage.

Thought for the day – Will Power

If you believe ‘you can’ and have the strong desire to do so, then despite setbacks, it’s your will power that makes you ‘try, try, try again’. Both ‘will’ and ‘power’ are released when you go from ‘will do’ to ‘doing things willingly’

Padmini Ekadashi

Padmini Ekadashi is observed on during the waxing phase of the moon (Shukla Paksha) only in the Adhika Masam or extra month added to the Hindu lunar calendar. Also known as Kamala Ekadashi, this ritual is conducted to wash away the sins and seek a place in the abode of Lord Vishnu, known as Vaikunta. While the rules for observing the Padmini Ekadashi are same as any other Ekadashi, the story behind its observance is associated with Padmini, wife of King Kartavirya. Continue scrolling through the lines below to know about the story of Padmini Ekadashi vrat and the procedure for observing the same.

How To Observe Kamala Ekadashi Vrat
Legends go around King Kartavirya who was the ruler of the kingdom of Tretayuga. The king had been married to a thousand queens only on the pretext of having a son that could rule his dynasty. Hence in order to get a son, the king had performed several austerities for over ten thousand years but to no avail. Thus, he set out to the forests. Knowingly, Padmini (one of the thousand queens of Kartavirya) followed him and met Anasuya (Maha Pathivrata) on the way. On enquiring about any vrat that could help in conceiving a baby, Anasuya asked her to observe two Ekadashis that fall in the Adhika Masam. As directed, both Kartavirya and Padmini observed the said fasts.

Soon after, Lord Vishnu appeared before the couple and further informed that they would soon be granted their wishes as they had observed vrats in the month that is considered highly auspicious. In due course of time, the couple was blessed with a healthy son, named Kartaviryarjuna, who was not only powerful but also defeated and imprisoned Ravana. The Padmini Ekadashi vrat is observed by following the same routine as that of Ekadashi. Devotees have to restrict themselves from consuming food items, such as rice, urad dal, chickpeas, spinach, honey, and so on.

Thought for the day – Mistakes

When you make a mistake, learn from it, resolve not to repeat it and then forget about it. You will feel better again. Do the same with others, instead of making their mistakes bigger, dissolve them in your mind and help them also to forget about them.
